Founding Software Engineer
Early engineering hire at a consumer mobile startup in the collectibles and trading card space. You will own the core product experience end to end, from the feel of the animations to the money-in and money-out flows. In-office in New York, with real ownership and a fast shipping cadence.
This is a consumer mobile app where people open packs of real graded trading cards and either keep what they pull or sell back instantly at market value. Every rip is a real card, every pull has real value, and the whole experience has to feel exciting, satisfying, and trustworthy. The moment of opening a pack is the product. The team is small and fast moving. You would be one of the earliest engineering hires, working directly with the founders on the app people open and rip on every day. Longer term, the company is building toward a broader collectibles and rare goods platform.
What you'll work on
- The core ripping experience: the flows, animations, and feel of opening a pack and seeing your pull
- Funding and instant sell-back, making the money-in and money-out moments seamless
- The screens users live in: collection, pull history, pack selection, onboarding
- Real-time pricing so every card shows an accurate, up-to-the-moment value
- Speed and reliability across the app. If a rip lags or a value looks wrong, the magic breaks
- Fast iteration on new pack types, mechanics, and features that keep people coming back
What we're looking for
- Strong, high-agency engineer who has shipped real, polished consumer apps end to end
- An eye for product and UX. You care how a tap feels, not just that it works
- Comfort owning features from idea to shipped, and moving fast without cutting corners on correctness
- Solid fundamentals in APIs, state, and building responsive real-time interfaces
- Bias toward action, and a track record of thriving in a high-ownership, early-stage environment
- 2 to 5 years of experience, ideally including time at a high-growth startup
- CS degree from a strong program
Nice to have
- Mobile experience (React Native, Swift, or Kotlin) and a track record of working on apps people love using
- Payments or money-movement experience
- Background in mobile gaming, collectibles, or sports cards
This role is not for you if
- You require being told what and how to do your job. This is a high agency role that requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, act swiftly, and ship product without handholding
- You are looking for a 9 to 5 on weekdays. This is a fast growing startup with a team dedicating their time to the success of the company
- You want a hybrid work environment. The office is in New York City and the whole team is expected in it
- You do not care about trading cards, collectibles, or the pack-ripping community more broadly
Compensation
Competitive base plus meaningful early-stage equity.
